Dr. Tomi Kovačević has obtained the titles of Specialist in Palliative Medicine (2017), Specialist in Health Management (2019), Doctor of Medical Sciences in the field of Public Health (2020), and Subspecialist in Geriatrics (2026). He has furthered his professional training in the field of palliative medicine through international education at renowned global centers such as “Princess Margaret Hospital” in Toronto (Canada), “Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin” in Berlin (Germany), Universitair Ziekenhuis Leuven in Leuven (Belgium), King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London (United Kingdom), and others.
Dr. Kovačević’s scientific contributions are reflected in his authorship and co-authorship of numerous scientific papers, international collaborations, participation in various projects, as well as through awards from professional associations both domestically and abroad. He is a member of national and international professional associations, and as an invited lecturer, session moderator, and chair on topics such as Palliative Care, Pain Management, Communication in Healthcare, etc., he is an active participant in professional gatherings both in the country and abroad.
He has been employed at the Institute since 2013, where he is dedicated to symptomatic treatment and palliative care, as well as promoting the improvement of the quality of life for patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses and the geriatric population. He is the Head of the Palliative Care Department.
Since 2019, he has been engaged at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Novi Sad as an assistant, and he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in March 2025. He is the Head of the Department of General Medicine and Geriatrics and the coordinator of elective courses in Palliative Medicine and Clinical Sexology.
