The Clinic for Pulmonary Oncology is one of the largest clinics of the Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina, where an average of 2,500 patients are hospitalized annually. The Clinic conducts modern diagnostics, treatment, and monitoring of patients suffering from bronchial carcinoma. Since 2014, the Clinic for Pulmonary Oncology has been in close collaboration with the laboratory for molecular genetics, where tumor tissue testing is performed daily, which is crucial for determining the appropriate therapy for patients with bronchial carcinoma.
The diagnostic-therapeutic approach for patients with bronchial carcinoma is based on the principles of good clinical practice, personalized and precision medicine, as well as current national and international guidelines. The approach to patients treated at this Clinic, which provides patients with the most advanced available treatment and care, is facilitated through multidisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration among experts in oncology, thoracic surgery, radiotherapy, palliative medicine, psychology, and other professionals employed at the Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina.
In addition, the Clinic also conducts a large number of scientific research studies aimed at finding the most effective therapy for bronchial carcinoma.
The Day Hospital for Systemic Oncological Therapy of Bronchial Cancer was established in 2003 and fully renovated in 2025, with the aim of providing patients with a modern, safe, and comfortable space for treatment. It is organized as a functional and pleasant unit, tailored to the needs of oncology patients and contemporary healthcare standards.
This unit conducts systemic treatment of bronchial cancer using chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, in accordance with applicable domestic and international professional recommendations. The therapeutic approach is individualized, with continuous monitoring of treatment effects and safety, as well as active participation of a multidisciplinary team in decision-making.
A special segment of the work is focused on the prevention, early recognition, and management of adverse effects of oncological therapy, with the aim of preserving safety, continuity of treatment, and quality of life for patients.
The Day Hospital also provides the preparation of complete medical documentation for the approval of modern therapies by the relevant institutions.
During the previous year, more than 9,000 services were provided, and between 40 and 60 patients are managed daily. This volume of work reflects a high level of trust and commitment to quality and responsible patient care, as well as the significance of the unit in the bronchial cancer treatment system.
The Bronchological Diagnostic Cabinet is the most advanced center for respiratory endoscopy in our country and one of the most modern in the region.
In addition to standard diagnostic endoscopic procedures for sampling material for pathohistological, cytopathological, and bacteriological analysis (fiber bronchoscopy, transbronchial biopsy, transbronchial puncture, bronchial biopsy, catheter biopsy, bronchial brushing, and bronchoalveolar lavage), the cabinet also performs bronchoscopies with linear and radial endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) as well as autofluorescent bronchoscopy (AFI – Autofluorescence Imaging) and narrow band bronchoscopy (NBI – Narrow Band Imaging), which play a role in the detection of pre-malignant lesions within the bronchial tree and the detection of pathological tumor vascularization.
Regarding interventional endoscopic procedures, the following are performed: laser resection of tumor changes in the bronchial tree, electrocauterization, argon plasma coagulation, brachytherapy, sclerotherapy of tracheobronchial fistulas, and cryotherapy. All bronchoscopic procedures are performed under analgosedation, while interventional procedures are conducted under general anesthesia, and a modern high-frequency jet ventilator (High Frequency Jet Ventilation) is used for patient ventilation.
