Emergency Department for the Reception and Management of Urgent Conditions, Specialist-Consultative Examinations and Diagnostic Procedures
The Emergency Department for the Reception and Management of Urgent Conditions, Specialist-Consultative Examinations and Diagnostic Procedures, which includes the Dispensary for Pulmonary Diseases in Novi Sad as well as the Pulmonary Clinic at the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, is an integral part of the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica.
The activities of the department are preventive, diagnostic, curative, and educational. Annually, over 30,000 patients are examined in the Outpatient Reception Service, of which more than 6,000 are admitted for hospital treatment.
The concept of a “comprehensive space” as favored in Western Europe and America has been applied in the Outpatient Admission Service of the Polyclinic Institute, thereby improving work efficiency and accelerating patient processing, as well as their referral to higher instances of the Institute for further diagnostics and treatment.
The polyclinic activities of the service are conducted in outpatient clinics within the department:

- Department for Specialist-Consultative Examinations and Diagnostics Novi Sad
The Department for the Admission and Management of Urgent Conditions and Specialist-Consultative Examinations is organized into outpatient clinics:
- Admission Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases
- Clinic for the Management of Urgent Conditions
- Thoracic Surgery Clinic
- Clinic for Ultrasound Examinations and EKG
- Oncology Commission Clinic
- Clinic for Follow-Up Examinations
- Clinic for Pain Therapy
- Clinic for Functional Diagnostics
which are open continuously for 24 hours and are part of the Admission Block of the Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina, where the first contact with patients is established. Permanent work in these clinics is performed by two doctors, specialists in pneumonology during the morning hours with the presence of a specialist in emergency medicine, while in the afternoon and at night, the work in these clinics is carried out by the on-call team led by a specialist doctor and medical technicians. The emergency care clinic is equipped with all necessary equipment for emergency resuscitation measures. In this clinic, pleural punctures (diagnostic and therapeutic) as well as other diagnostic procedures are performed.
IN THE THORACIC SURGERY CLINIC
in the morning, a specialist in thoracic surgery works, while in the afternoon and at night, the on-call thoracic surgeon operates in this clinic.
IN THE ULTRASOUND AND EKG CLINIC
work is carried out according to a pre-established schedule by specialists in internal medicine, specialists in emergency medicine, and specialists in pneumonology.
IN THE ONCOLOGY COMMISSION CLINIC
specialists in pneumonology and internal medicine with completed subspecialty in oncology work here. The clinical status of pulmonary oncology patients is monitored, and further therapy is determined according to the latest accepted treatment protocols, with additional diagnostics proposed as needed.
IN THE CONTROL EXAMINATION CLINIC
scheduled clinical check-ups are performed for patients treated at the Institute for Pulmonary Diseases of Vojvodina, most commonly for COPD, pulmonary thromboembolism, pneumonia, pulmonary manifestations of systemic diseases, and cystic fibrosis. This clinic also includes a pain therapy unit, which is often associated with the oncology commission, as many oncology patients require pain management.
Approximately 44,000 patients are examined annually in these clinics, with over 6,000 patients admitted for hospitalization.
DEPARTMENT FOR SPECIALIST – CONSULTATIVE EXAMINATIONS AND DIAGNOSTICS (NOVI SAD)
The department has three organizational units:
- Department for Diagnostic Examinations
- Day Hospital
- Department for Respiratory Rehabilitation Treatment
Doctors also perform consultative activities at the Clinical Center of Vojvodina. Specialist examinations are conducted in the surgical clinic for obesity (Prof. Dr. Miroslav Ilić, surgeon), specialist examination by physiatrist Ass. Dr. sci med Danijela Kuhajda, specialist in physiatry, and echocardiograms (ECHO) by Prof. Dr. Ivan Kopitović, internist-pulmonologist.
There is a growing trend in the number of patients examined throughout the year.
In 2016, there were 15,600 specialist examinations, in 2017 this number exceeded 20,000, and by the end of 2018 it amounted to nearly 22,000.
