Quality begins and ends with the patient. Their satisfaction is imperative for quality, as it defines the dimensions of quality and evaluates the quality of services. Meeting the demands, needs, and expectations of patients is a priority for all employees at the Institute.
QUALITY ACCORDING TO ISO 9001 – Quality Management System
The Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina has established a quality management system in accordance with the international ISO standard for quality management since 2005. Certification is regularly renewed every three years.
In March 2017, the operations of the Institute were aligned with the latest version of the standard from 2015 (SRPS ISO 9001:2015).
The standardization of the quality system, which has been ongoing for 12 years, contributes to the improvement of the quality of healthcare services provided to patients. Documented procedures ensure that each service is delivered in a prescribed manner, while also being the best possible way, with clearly defined elements: who, what, when, how, and where it should be done.
Internal and external quality controls, along with continuous monitoring, measurement, and analysis, are the basis for identifying errors and correcting them, as well as for planning improvements. This way, effectiveness is increased, and services are provided in the shortest possible time, using the most advanced methods and treatment means by competent staff, with maximum attention and respect for patient rights.
The maintenance and improvement of the quality system leads to the harmonization of relationships between patients and staff, allowing all participants in this relationship to clearly and unambiguously understand and accept their obligations, competencies, and responsibilities.
The quality management system is maintained and improved with the commitment and engagement of all employees at the Institute.
LABORATORY ACCREDITATION
The Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina is accredited for biochemical and microbiological testing services of human samples by the ATS (Accreditation Body of Serbia) since 2008, in accordance with the international standard for laboratory testing SRPS ISO/IEC 17025:2006.
Since 2012, the Institute has been accredited under the standard for medical laboratories SRPS ISO 15189:2008, and since May 2016, under the latest edition of the standard SRPS EN ISO 15189:2014. The accreditation of the biochemical and microbiological laboratory according to the standard SRPS EN ISO 15189:2014 provides official recognition and confirms the competence of the Institute to perform biochemical and microbiological testing of human samples.

ACCREDITED HEALTHCARE INSTITUTION
The Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina has been an accredited healthcare institution since 2015.
The new accreditation cycle began in December 2021, and the evaluation by assessors from the Accreditation Agency of Healthcare Institutions of Serbia (AZUS) was conducted from May 25 to May 27, 2022.
Based on the percentage representation of grades obtained during the evaluation, the director of the Accreditation Agency for Healthcare Institutions of Serbia (AZUS) has, pursuant to Article 18 of the Rulebook on the Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions, issued a Decision on Accreditation of the Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina for a period of 7 years and a Certificate of Accreditation valid until June 23, 2029.
The assessment of compliance with national standards for healthcare institutions, conducted by evaluators from the Accreditation Agency for Healthcare Institutions of Serbia (AZUS), confirms that the Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina is at the forefront of Serbian healthcare in terms of the quality of services provided to patients.
The quality of work was evaluated according to predetermined criteria and a scale (ratings from 1 – 5) for assessing compliance.
Out of 610 criteria, 98.36% were rated with the highest scores of 4 and 5.

The primary potential of the Institute for Lung Diseases of Vojvodina lies in its employees, their motivation to elevate the level of healthcare and the quality of services provided to users, and their desire for education and new achievements.
The use of modern technologies with good work organization is evident.
The institution’s potentials also include the continuous procurement of new medical equipment.
An achievement is the application of innovative therapies (biological and immunological therapy for patients with tumor cancer, biological therapy for asthma and cystic fibrosis, therapy for pulmonary hypertension). Clinical studies are being conducted – drug testing.
Teamwork and good connectivity are enabled by the Integrated Hospital Information System (IBIS).
The renovation of the Microbiology Department and the Clinic for Obstructive Lung Diseases and Acute Pneumopathies is commendable.
The first strategic goal is the expansion of the spatial capacities of IPBV and the reconstruction of existing organizational units, with plans for the construction of a new facility “Kamenica 3”.
Health documentation is meticulously maintained in both paper and electronic form, from patient admission to discharge.
The work presents the concept of managing user satisfaction with services, as well as the approach to implementing relationships on which the business strategy of management is based, enabling the creation of a strong bond between users and the Institution, which represents the most important segment of managing user satisfaction with services.
The Institute is also a teaching base of the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad and is the holder of international and domestic courses, symposiums, and significant international projects (10), provincial projects (10), and city projects (3). IPBV is the holder of the pilot project “Early Detection of Lung Cancer” and through the application of LDCT screening, screening of at-risk individuals is conducted.
Prior to the opening of the COVID hospital in Novi Sad, IPBV was part of the COVID system, and a strategy in the fight against infectious diseases that was adopted was implemented. All steps were taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, ensuring continuity of operations and the highest level of safety, with significant activity from epidemiologists in preventing and controlling hospital infections and monitoring and controlling the epidemiological situation.
The institute has very successfully utilized the period between the accreditation visit and reaccreditation, thereby confirming the principle of accreditation, i.e., the continuous improvement of the quality of work and the safety of service users and employees.
